Dear Pastors and Youth Directors,

What a joy it is to be writing you to share in what our conference and district will have coming up for our young people in the coming year.  First I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.  My name is Matt Seals and I am the Director of Youth at Salem UMC in Simpson, NC.  I have just finished up my first year at Salem and God is doing amazing things through the program here.  I have worked at two other churches before this as youth and music person combined.  I am easily reached at any time by e-mail or by phone and all that information will be at the bottom of this page!  I am now the Greenville District Youth Coordinator and I am very thankful to Beth [Hood] for asking me to do this for such a wonderful district.  I would like to take a moment to throw out some ideas and information for your youth in your church as well as for us on a district level.  As you all know one of the biggest youth events in the conference is this coming weekend in Fayetteville, I hope to see some of our district churches at Pilgrimage this year as it is a very enjoyable time.  Here is a list of the 2008 dates, if you would like myself or a group of youth to share more about these events please contact me.

2008 Events and Dates

Summer Breakaway - June 23-28 at Louisburg College
Appalachian Trail Hike - July 12-19
ACS (Annual Conference Session for Youth) - July 21-26 at Methodist
University in Fayetteville
Pilgrimage - November 7-9 at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville

These are great events for our young people and they are not only fun but you learn a lot and you meet a lot of really great people!!

One of the things I would love to see happen is that the Greenville District Youth become an active part of the North Carolina Conference as a whole again.  One way to do this is by forming a District Youth Council.  If we had at least one youth and one counselor from each church in the district we could plan events such as: all night bowling, 30 Hour Famine lock-in, and then the easy events like a rally day at one of the local churches.  I would love to see this start in the Fall of 2008.  Please contact me if you have any questions!

Our young people are no longer the Church of the future; they are the Church of today!!

In His Name,

Matt Seals
